GFI Prayer Memo August 18, 2008

geewilly | August 19, 2008 06:38

John Woodward received an Email from P.P. Thomas in India, an elderly gentleman who continues to seek ways to do important work for the Lord with great consideration.

Recently he had a session with a Christian friend in the presence of his dear wife. He has known them both for over two years as they used to meet in the Prayer and Bible study meetings of Evangelical

Graduates' meeting twice a month. Yes, believers also need counseling.

In the afternoon, he attended a meeting of Friends called by his son-in law, James to consider the future of the ministry of training people in Inductive Bible Study. Twenty-eight people attended, drawn from different denominations and background. John Zachariah gave a message starting with Ezra 7:10. The IBS Seminar was the main item for discussion and prayer. It will be conducted on 13th and 14th of September. In order that it may not become a financial burden on any attendees, it was decided to subsidize by accepting donation from friends who care.

GCI is getting ready for the gathering of the trainees of the past. That will be on 19th & 20th of September.

Do pray, Thank you.

I just returned from a youth camp-Sibiu-in Carpatians mountains of Romania. My wife Lydia and I spent a week there with a wonderful group of young people, two of them experiencing victory. Thank you for

your prayers.

John W. gives thanks for a safe trip to Toronto last weekend. He was able to fly up and visit his daughter and son-in-law AND meet the baby--Luke William.  He led a Bible study at GFI Associate, Tim Britskey's, home. There was a full house of members of Tim's weekly study and other friends and family. Sunday morning John & family visited their former church in Stoney Creek and had an encouraging reunion there.

Please pray for a sister John met on the flight home. Bernice has had several trials this past year and needs prayer for comfort, guidance, and an intervention in her estranged husband's life. She is quite interested in the GFI materials and teaches a Sunday School class in Toronto...

Chuck and Sue had a a good trip to Texas and are back safely in TN. Let's pray for a strategic conference that is being planned in Memphis, TN for next year.

Sue has a stress test this week. May God heal her heart and sustain her health.

John's new book, Blessed Reassurance is in the final stages of editing...

GFI has counselees this week from Chicago and Washington D.C.

Praying with you,

Crime in South Africa

geewilly | August 13, 2008 09:47

News reports indicate the political and social unrest in troubled South Africa. Our mission members there have a strategic message in Christ-centered counseling and training.

A report that didn't make the news involved our leaders there. On August 10th, Hendrik and Nehlsie DeBruto were attacked. God spared their lives, but this letter from them describes what happened:

Dear Chuck and Sue,

The Lord is good. We had a good sermon last night at Isaac's Church. It went on late and we returned home with our host and her daughter. When we came home, Hendrik opened the gate and the lady reversed into her yard and was about to enter the garage when gun shots were fired and two men were holding Hendrik hostage. She jumped out of the car and left me and her daughter in the car. She went to the back of her yard to pray. The one without the gun wanted to take the little girl. I asked him what he wanted with her and called on the name of Jesus. He let her go and she ran in the house.

He then came for me. I put up a fight because he wanted to pull me out of the car. I called on the name of Jesus and I had such power that this big young man could not get me out the car. He then slapped me and kicked me. I think I have a cracked rib from that. Then the one  with the gun came to me, while the other one held Hendrik. I thank God that Hendrik stayed calm, because if he would have tried to help me or resist they would have killed him.

The armed one then took my wedding ring which Hendrik gave me  41 year ago. (I don't think he will get R 5 for it!) He also took my watch and my handbag and all my bank cards, my ID book, drivers licence and  my spectacles.

Then  I got out of the car because I wanted to see what they were doing with Hendrik. They also took all his belongings. Then they forced him in the car and that broke my heart because I felt certain that they would kill him. I ran inside the house and just wept, crying out to God. The next moment my husband was standing next to me. They had left and not one of us was harmed!

South Africa is not a nice country to live in, but these people need us here. The neighbours came running and all felt so ashamed and asked our forgiveness. They love us so much and it is extremely painful for them that this has happened in their neighbourhood. They were so happy to have us here with them.

But for Christ's sake I will remain where God has called us to be.

Love,

Hendrik and Nehlsie

An their coworker, Petrus Louw wrote:

I want to inform you and Chuck of an incident that happened to Hendrik en
Nehlsie, I think on Sunday or Monday evening.

They are currently busy with seminars in the old Transvaal area and were
robbed at gunpoint. Both were injured, not seriously. They lost all there
belongings, ID, money, cell phones etc. Hendriks glasses were broken;
Nehlsie's one is gone. It looks like Nelhsie has injured a rib or two. Shots
were fire but through the grace of the Lord nobody was hit.

Apparently was the guy from Romania with them. They were very lucky to be
alife. This is one of South Africa's serious crimes currently. They normally
kill their victims to leave no traces.

They continued with conferences and Hendrik says that God has blessed the
meetings after this incident.

Please Prayer for them. I do not know what is the current state with the
money. I believe that they have stopped all accounts.

God Bless.

Please intercede for the DeBrutos and their associates there. Any designated gifts that are received for them, the funds will be added to their support and forwarded to them.

Dear Mission and Prayer Partners,

Dr. Solomon's daughter, Cathy, who manages the Grace Fellowship Mission Office in Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, writes that every day she gets to hear about the miracles God is performing around the world in lives of individuals, marriages, and families.

A man in the Midwest Handbook to Happiness and Ins and Outs of Rejection. He read Handbook and called and said, "it was the greatest book he had ever read, and why had he never heard of it before? It had been written in the 60's and he had been around since then, and had never heard
of it before? He then read Ins and Outs And called again and said, "I am on every page of this book; has this author been following me about for 55 years?" He had separated form his wife for two years; she called him Friday night crying; he went to her and held her while she cried. He told her he was coming for counseling the week of August 18 and she asked if she could come. Please pray for these two as God is working in their lives individually and reconciling their marriage.

Dad and Mom, (Chuck and Sue) are traveling to Houston on the 7th to celebrate their 48'h wedding anniversary and to meet their granddaughter, Aubry's finance, Drew Hartman, and his family. On their return leg, they will stop in Memphis to meet with a friend and his pastor, ability of holding a conference there. Both Mom and Dad are well. Mom will have a four hour stress test on August 22. Pleas keep her in your prayers.

John and Linda Woodward are celebrating the birth of Luke Parsonson, their daughter Laura's first born. Linda spent a week there in July in Toronto when Laura came home from the hospital. John is making arrangements to get there himself, to meet him in person.

Ty Epling is assisting GFIn in Florida to arrange a conference in Merrit Island/cocoa Beach in January, 2009.

Recently, Frey Bedell from Liberia, West Africa, arrived in South Africa to meet with the, directors there, Hendrick and Nehlsie Deburto, and our director from East Africa, Charles Ambaka. Frey will be training with Nehlsie and Charles so he can return to Liberia and train pastors.

From Monday to Friday they will do the Conference and Workshop with Frey. They asked Charles to participate as a lecturer but he said he would rather be an example to Frey of being and example.. He says, he knows his fellow African brothers, and it would not be good if he also teaches. He has
been teaching this message for a long time, but is still willing to be a student. Quite a lesson in humility.

When the Debruto's return to Cape Town they will prepare for their trip to the Eastern Cape. They have an appointment to train leaders of a newly planted church, but also to take the whole congregation through the conference.

Wendy King asks prayer for Rita who has completed her 13 radiation cancer treatments. Today will be her last one. She thanks you for your loving care of her sister. But remember, the journey of her sister, and Leon Myers, is not over. The Lord is still in charge, and will see fit to their future. Keep

praying for her.

Another family living here, experienced the agony of a sick child. They were expecting their brother Ross's family from Roanoke VA. And were asked early in the AM to come to Roanoke and pick up the Ross twin granddaughters about age 4- 5. Their brother Luke, age 7, had yesterday showed severe difficulties of balance, headache and slurred speech. The twins dearly love their big brother. He was now in a local hospital to have a cat scan. A diagnosis of a brain Tumor at the base of his brain was made. Steroids were given to shrink it and he was transferred to John's Hopkins. The surgeon who was to organize their transfer called back, DR. Ben Carson, a famous physician, and a remarkable Christian. The doctors who are treating Luke at John's Hopkins were left with very little hope for Luke. Only slight hope lies in Dr. Carson. But he is yet to speak! Prayer is asked that Dr. Carson will see things that others are unable to see. He has healed others. Pray that God will answer their's and our prayers for this child, and that we will all down to pray!

Wendy King offers a challenge. There is no curse if you do not pass it on; no promised blessings if you do; just something we desperately need to do, as our country is at a critical point in history. ONE MINUTE EACH  NIGHT... 9:00 PM Eastem Standard time.

This is one of the most important elections we, as Christians, have ever faced and from the looks of the polls, the Christians aren't voting Christian values. We all need to be on our knees.

During WW II, there war an advisor to Churchill who organized a group of people who dropped what they were doing at a prescribed hour for one minute to collectively pray for the safety of England, it's people and peace. It had as bombing stopped. There is now a group of people organizing the the same thing here in America. The United States of America and our citizens need prayer more than ever.

2 Chron. 7:14 "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

GFI Prayer Memo August 4, 2008

geewilly | August 05, 2008 11:35

Dear Missions and Prayer Partners:

Several days ago, John W. sent a prayer letter to P.P. Thomas in India, whom we had thought was receiving the letter. (Forgive us for not doing it for P.P. sooner.) He is part of the global ministry, and is receiving a sense of membership of that ministry, stating that it now gives him an idea of what to
pray for. We ask love and prayer for this precious servant of our Lord.

Frey Bedell has arrived in South Africa. The African team is there together, including Nehlsie and Hendrick DeBruto of South Africa, and Charles Ambaka of Kenya. May God bless their fellowship, equipping, and planning time together.

Chuck and Sue will be traveling to Houston, TX August 7th. They will be visiting Ron and Chris Solomon, and others. On the way back they will stop in Memphis, TN and confer with friends who are interested in hosting a GFI conference early next year.

And they are celebrating their 58th wedding anniversary! Please also pray for Sue's heart; the valve problem persists and she has a stress test on the 22nd.

Steven Barnett, pastor of Music and Worship in First Baptist Church in Powell, Tennessee, received a call on the 28 from his father, that there is a liver is available for his sister, Susan. They left for Nashville and the surgery at Vanderbilt. It will take 4 weeks of hospital care to guarantee that the transplant will be successful. Please pray for Susan, the surgeons and the family who lost their loved one who willingly donated this needed organ. We will look for updates, to send.

Jeremy Lovett, 24 years old, and on the top of a liver transplant list in Alabama, is currently in hospital on a respirator. Please pray for a liver donor.

Ronnie Bullins, has just lost Krystian, his daughter of 18, who had been a National Honor Student in High School, and was just headed to the University of North Carolina, to study medicine. She had been born with an autoimmune disease and had to have a liver transplant in 1998. She healed, and continued to do well in her medical studies, and winning honors. Above all, she was a born again child of the King.
Ronnie took his children when they were young, through a course on The Grace of Dying, Dealing, with Loss. That he wants to make this blessing, available to others and to share with his Pastor and Educational Director of his own church. He will bless others with that course. God will bless him
abundantly.

Praying with you,
Grace
